The Power Of Positive Thinking
I’m not so much of a Bible reader but I do remember the story of David and Goliath. David was a mere shepherd boy – short, thin – who tended to his brothers’ sheep. When Goliath came, everyone was terrified and no one attempted to fight him. David asked them, “Why are you afraid of Goliath?” His brothers said, “He’s huge!” And David replied with optimism, “But that is why he won’t be difficult to miss!”
The “David and Goliath” story has been around for years, told to preschoolers in different parts of the world, simply because it inspires them to think positive and to always look at the brighter side of things. I believe that it sends a strong message not only to preschoolers but also to adults, no matter their age.
What is Positive Thinking?
Positive thinking, by definition, is the formation of pleasant thoughts, the transformation of negative thoughts to positive ones, and expecting constructive and successful outcomes in return. It cultivates happiness and nurtures a healthy heart, mind, and spirit. To achieve this, you obviously need to possess a positive mental attitude and an optimistic personality. When you are a positive thinker, you’re already halfway to reaching your goal.
What are the Benefits of Positive Thinking?
There is much to be attributed to being optimistic, and one of its most essential benefits is that it greatly decreases an individual’s stress levels. As anxiety is inevitable, it slowly eats you up and pulls you down. However, when you think positively, you cannot and WILL NOT continue to delve deep into the problem, but start on formulating solutions. You refuse to be affected by it and instead think of ways to overcome and win over your anxiety. This ability to be resilient to anxiety and stress is believed to be the reason why positive thinkers are less prone to heart disease and other illnesses.
Optimistic individuals also tend to live healthier lifestyles. They shun from smoking, drinking, and other unhealthy habits because they look forward to a great day, every day. They prefer physical activity and other vigorous hobbies, which apparently produce healthier and more productive results for them. Because they perceive things to be beautiful and always look forward to success in what they do, they tend to win more competitions and excel in most of their endeavors compared to others.
Finally, positive thinkers feel more inspired, motivated, and focused on their goals in life. They are creative and innovative, and constantly want to be ahead of things. What others perceive to be worthless, they see as valuable. That is why people really notice them because they are usually vibrant and their energy is contagious. They almost always get the best impressions from others.
The power of positive thinking cannot be underestimated. It is one of the most important attitudes that you should learn to develop. Yes, it can be developed. Talking and being with optimists is one way to become an optimist yourself. Self-talk is an old but definitely effective strategy of instilling positive vibes. You can also seek guidance from certified therapists online who can help with boosting your self-esteem. Start believing in yourself. Claim your successes and be inspired to work for them. Then you can say, “Yes, being a giant was just Goliath’s downfall.”
