Some people often remain dissatisfied with their weight in spite of trying all possible means to shed it off. Exercise, dieting, starving, and abstinence, nothing seems to work in their favor. It often leads to cases where the person is almost driven to a point of depression because of their inability to lose weight. With that said, the following are some of the probable causes why people may find it difficult to lose weight:
Bad eating habits – People who have bad eating habits find it difficult to lose weight. In order to lose weight, a daily requirement of protein must be consumed because proteins help in the breakdown of food and prevent the accumulation of fat in the body. Intake of too many calories and carbohydrates makes it difficult for the body to lose weight. Eating junk food also leads to increase in weight due to its generous use of oil.
Binge eating; i.e, eating continuously, irrespective of whether the food is healthy or not also makes it difficult to lose weight.
Bad drinking habits – Certain drinks such as aerated drinks contain a high amount of sugar and calories. Drinking too much of alcohol also causes difficulty in weight loss as it contains high amounts of sugar and calories. Also, not consuming water in the required quantities might make weight loss difficult. Water helps keep the body hydrated and aids in the flushing out of toxic matter from the body. Even juices that contain high amounts of sugar should be avoided. Too much of sugar intake may lead to various forms of diabetes or other health complications.
Wrong methods of exercise and patterns of sleeping – Exercise is considered good for health and helps in maintaining the correct body weight. However, exercising in the wrong way can also make it difficult for the body to lose weight. Cardio includes activities like running, jogging, etc. It is extremely effective in burning belly fat and visceral fat. Weight lifting is another resistance activity that should be practiced while trying to lose weight. It helps to hold on to body mass so that the muscles do not burn down along with the fat in the body. Avoiding cardio and weight lifting can prevent weight loss. Bad sleeping patterns are often seen as a factor related to obesity.
Medical conditions – Certain medical conditions do not allow people to lose weight easily. Conditions such as sleep apnea, polycystic ovary syndrome, hypothyroidism, etc. may cause a person to gain an immense amount of weight. Moreover, certain medicines that are prescribed to people suffering from medical conditions do not allow easy weight loss. Certain hormonal and hereditary syndromes also cause a lot of weight gain. If a person suffers from a medical condition and finds it difficult to reduce weight in spite of trying everything, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
Other causes – Other than the above-mentioned causes, people may also find it difficult to lose weight due to some other reasons. Firstly, if the person does not check his/her weight regularly or does not use an accurate method to check weight, then they may not be able to notice any change. Secondly, having unrealistic goals in mind could make anyone feel dissatisfied with the results in spite of trying all possible methods to lose weight. There is an extent to which weight loss is possible after which the body may not lose weight any further. Sometimes people lose fat and develop muscles instead, in such cases the body weight does not decrease.
